On Coming Home

I’m lying here in bed letting my mind drift off to sleep, and I’m thinking on the past year and coming home from school again. I remember how much I wanted to leave Murfreesboro at the end of my freshman year, and how much I didn’t miss it. This year is different. I’ve developed a connection with that town that I can only describe as a second home. It may just be my anticipation about the kick ass house I’m moving into in August, but Knoxville just doesn’t feel completely right now a days. In the past 12 days of being home I’ve found myself doing things reminiscent of last summer. Djing for the same company, visiting the same spots as always, and yet this summer is so vastly different. The one thing that is completely necessary about this time at home is the true intake of the past 9 months or so. It’s so weird to know that I was a completely different guy focused on different things back then. Truthfully being an RA kept my mind off of a lot of the shit I was going through, but somehow the combination of having your heart broken straight into school doesn’t really work haha. I’m in a great place in my life right now because I’m able to just work on me. The phrase I’ve used recently is “In a committed relationship with myself”. This is because the past year kept me from thinking through and dealing with certain things. I’m thrilled to spend this summer working, saving money, being healthy, and reconnecting with friends new and old.

Most importantly- I’m planning a trip out west in July more than likely.

Late nights, I should sleep. I’m djing for 9 days straight starting tomorrow. Time to get at life. Be easy-

“Love is a verb, it ain’t a thing. It’s not something you hold. It’s not something you scream. When you show me love, I don’t need your words. Yeah love ain’t a thing. Love is a verb.”- JM

Anonymous asked: So judging from your blog, you seem pretty awesome. Are you opposed to dating guys? Ha

I’m (mostly) happy with the single life at the moment, and while I am forever and always interested in women, I do appreciate the flattery. I’m just not wired that way. Gotta have the feminine form and energy. Also, this is the most bold question an anon has ever asked me. Grats

Sometimes I think happiness is just as simple as letting yourself breath in and out, and then BE HAPPY. Doesn’t always work, but I think attitude helps everything. If I’m sinking, I’ll do my damnedest to keep my head above the water.

Mother’s Day

May 13, 2012
Mother’s Day

I’ve spent my day hanging out for the most part. It began with my mom treating me to new clothes and other accessories, which was followed by “Craft day” at my best friend’s house. It was a glorified excuse to lay around, shoot the shit, and drink mead wine. Afterward I plotted a mother’s day feast. The menu:

Appetizers: roasted red pepper hummus on toasted ciabatta, various peppers halved and stuffed with a cream cheese/bacon/parmesan/spice spread.

Lunch: Hearts of romaine salad garnished with diced strawberries, candied chocolate pecans, and raspberry vinaigrette. Main Course> My own red sauce with a mixture of diced portabella mushrooms, diced prosciutto, browned garlic, and a dash of sirah wine, all mixed with tortellini and ravioli.

Pics to follow. The best part of the night was making the food with my best friend, and afterward celebrating by driving to the park in the rain. GREAT times.

Different

Home from college for almost a week. Super laid back, but just really different. Also rocking the headache from hell. Night.

Me today and a year ago today. So much change inwardly and yet only slight changes outwardly.

In Like a Lion (makes 1) 1 1/2 oz of your favorite Gin or Whiskey 1 glass of ice 1 good quality Ginger Ale, such as Boylan’s 1/8 of a Blood Orange (regular oranges are fine too) Mint, optional
Squeeze the juice out of one section of orange into a glass with as much or as little ice as you like. If using mint, crush a few leaves between your fingers and add to the glass. Top with alcohol of choice and fill with ginger ale. Garnish with the same orange wedge.
I encourage you to try it both ways at least once–we originally thought the gin would be better but ended up preferring the whiskey.
